Bad breath is a common, and very embarrassing problem. The last thing you want to do when meeting with new clients, acquaintances, or even friends is to leave a lasting impression with your bad breath!
More than 80 million people suffer with bad breath. What they may not know is that bad breath can be the body’s way of indicating that something else is wrong. Bad breath can be caused by a variety of factors, such as:
- Gum disease
- Smoking
- Dry mouth
- Food particles
- Other diseases
For many people, one of the root causes of chronic bad breath, also called halitosis, is an oral hygiene routine that could use some more dedication. Getting rid of your bad breath may be as simple as remembering to floss and brush twice a day. Bad breath is often caused by bacteria in your mouth, especially on your tongue. When you brush consistently, including cleaning your tongue, your mouth will feel cleaner and your breath will likely improve.
For some people, the cause of bad breath is more serious. You may have developed gum disease or need to take medications that affect your breath. If a good dental hygiene routine does not improve your breath, then a more serious underlying cause may be the issue. You should speak with your dentist and doctor about your concerns to fully understand the cause for your bad breath and the possible remedies.
